xkcd honors Geocities last day by redesigning home page

Studio fj likes to showcase cool things in design. Today we want to give a shout out to webcomic xkcd and Geocities. In honor of Geocities closing, xkcd has redesigned their site with the classic Geocities look. Check it out!

We're sure the design will change back soon, so here's a screen shot of what it looked like in case you missed it:

Sure the homepage looks horrible, but the "Geocities" look is close to our hearts. Many of us webbies remember the first site we designed on Geocities with its glorious amount of ads and repeating animated GIFs. I'm sure if I dug through old emails I could find logins to many of my old Geocities accounts. Heck, maybe they'll be worth something someday.

At any rate, props to xkcd for the redesign and thanks to Geocities for providing us a platform for hosting our first websites. RIP Geocities.
